BAD CRASH IN WASHINGTON
 
(Washington Boro) Details are sketchy….but there is word of an accident this morning in Washington Boro.   The crash reportedly involved a garbage truck slamming into a pole.  There is downed wires.  No word on any injuries.    
 
MAKE CHANGES TO FLOOD CONTROL PLAN, SAYS STATE
 
(Trenton) New Jersey D-E-P officials should implement reforms to avert the devastating effects of flooding along the Delaware River.  A new report calls for establishing tougher regulations to lessen the impact of floods.  Last April, flooding on the river forced the evacuation of almost 6,000 people in counties, including Sussex and Warren. 
 
HIGHLANDS PANEL MEETS
 
(Chester) The State Highlands Council meets again later this morning in Chester.  They’re working on adopting a  regional master plan by June.   Elements of that plan are expected to be released by the summer.  The Highlands region was recently allotted 2 million dollars under President Bush’s budget.
 
MORE NEEDED FROM NJ SCHOOLS
 
(Washington) A report out finds New Jersey high schools aren’t doing enough to prepare students for careers or college.  It urges high schools to come up with more rigorous requirements and issue more meaningful standardized tests.
 
COURTS SAY "NO" TO KEEPING LARGE TRUCKS OFF LOCAL ROADS
 
(NJ) A rule making large trucks from outside the state keep off local roads is unconstitutional. That's the ruling of a federal appeals court. The state forced double tractor-trailers and wide trucks to use major highways instead of local roads. Officials said the trucks were avoiding turnpike tolls. The state has not decided whether to appeal.
 
CORZINE SUPPORTS BORROWING MONEY TO FILL TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND
 
(NJ) Governor Corzine doesn’t think making the New Jersey Turnpike private will solve the state’s road funding problems.  Corzine instead feels the transportation trust fund should borrow more money and refinance its debt.  The fund ran out of money last summer.
 
MAN ESCAPES JAIL TIME IN METH LAB BUST
 
(Hardyston) A Tennessee man whose father set up a methamphetamine lab in Hardyston avoids jail. Christopher Wade received two years probation for drug possession and bail jumping. His father, Steven Wade, was sentenced to ten years.
 
CORZINE PLEDGES TO BLOCK SALE OF PORT NEWARK
 
(NJ) Governor Jon Corzine says the state will file actions in state and federal courts to block the sale of operations at Port Newark to a company owned by the United Arab Emirates. The announcement comes amid a whirlwind of political backlash from both sides of the aisle against the Bush administration's approval of the port deal.
