WOULD-BE ROBBERS NABBED
(Tobyhanna) Police say they nabbed two would-be robbers in Tobyhanna. The suspects were allegedly trying to break into a house on Clover Road when police arrived. 27 year old Steven Paolini and 22 year old Joseph Baynock III were charged.
LAWYER CHARGED WITH HELPING CLIENT AVOID BAIL VIOLATION
(Stroudsburg) Monroe County authorities have charged a lawyer with helping his client avoid capture on a bail violation. John Karoly Jr. says the charges won't stop him help his client, who's a builder in Brodheadsville. The client is accused of defrauding customers.
NO ONE HURT IN FIRE
(East Stroudsburg) Two families are homeless after a fire in East Stroudsburg. Police say it happened early tuesday. No one was hurt. But authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
SNOWMOBILE CRASH KILLS NEW YORK WOMAN
(Hawley) A snowmobile tragedy in the Poconos has claimed the life of a New York woman. State police say 44 year old Lisa Schmidt lost control of the snowmobile on a course at Woodlock Pines near Hawley this past weekend. Police say the snowmobile hit a tree.
RENDELL SAYS HE'LL VETO VOTER BILL
(Harrisburg) Governor Rendell says he'll veto a bill that would require voters to show identification at the polls. Rendell says such a mandate is unconstitutional and would keep some of the state's most vulnerable residents from voting-----like poor people and those who live in nursing homes.
MAN SENTENCED FOR ROBBING TANNERSVILLE BANK
(Tannersville) A New York man is headed to jail for robbing a bank in Tannersville. 47 year old Charles Hardison walked into the PNC Bank in 2004 and gave a note to a teller demanding money. Hardison pled guilty. Police recovered the money.
MAN DIES IN HOUSE FIRE
(Westfall) Authorities are still investigating a fire that killed a Pike County man. The blaze completely gutted a trailer home on Route 209 and killed 71-year old Jerry Newell of Westfall late last week. A fireman on the scene sustained minor injuries for smoke inhalation.
GOP VOTERS LUKEWARM ON SWANN
(Harrisburg) Republicans are split over whether Lynn Swann has the experience to be governor. And Democratic Governor Ed Rendell holds a double digit lead over his only GOP challenger. The Quinnipiac University poll shows Rendell leading Swann 48% to 36%.
